My name is Candice Charles. I am an emerging artist living in Melbourne.

Reflecting my fascination with people and a career spent working with people from diverse backgrounds, my art practice explores human experience and social issues. My contemporary portraits and figurative work tell stories – of me, the people I share my life with and the communities I feel connected to.

My work often starts with sketches from life and photographs, and develops into paintings in oil or acrylic or bold linocut prints. The style is tonal, often using monochromatic and subdued palettes to express emotion and mood.
